5/11/05 | McDonalds Wins Fast Food Poll
[ Currently Eating: Sandwich ]
I could have seen this one coming a mile off. McDonald’s took first place in the Fast Food Poll I had on the site for last month, though not with some serious competition from Burger King. I’m actually quite surprised that Burger King made such a strong showing. It must be all their new “silent scary king mask” commercials that they’ve been pushing lately. Or perhaps it was their Enormous Omelette which seemed to get enormous publicity.
I’m a bit sad that my own fave, Jack in the Box, came in third. Belatedly, I also realized what with the furor over the Wendy’s chili finger incident that I should have included them in the poll instead of Carl’s Jr. I have a lot of good memories from Carl’s first introducing the Western Bacon Cheeseburger though, so I thought I’d include them:

As far as the cheapest restaurant of the four is concerned, all of them have their 99 cents menus and various other promotions. I feel that Jack in the Box promotes their 99 cent menu more than the others, although McD’s definitely has their “Day of the Week” specials that are extremely popular. I actually think Carl’s comes in a bit expensive, but maybe that’s because when I used to eat there when I was a kid I would go for the “strange” sandwiches, like that Chicken sandwich that actually had(has?) alfalfa sprouts in it, which are more expensive than plain old hamboigers.
Someone needs to do an indepth investigation of which of the major fast food hamburger places comes out on top as far as prices go (and probably taking into account at least a smidgen of the “quality” of the food). Don’t count on me though… I know all about Supersize Me. I eat enough fast food as it is…
By the way, check out the new poll at the top of the page… it’s for soda. And no, I won’t consider putting DIET soda in the poll. Yucky!

I remember liking Jack-in-the-Box a lot, and Arby’s for hot dogs, but they are no longer in Baltimore. I prefer Burger King because their burgers taste grilled, not fried. Hardees’s (also gone) charcoal-broiled their burgers. So BK wins only by default. McD’s has less to offer for $1 than Wendy’s; I’d rate Wendy’s best for cheap eats.

jain - I have had some bad 99 cent menu experiences with the Wendy’s near me. I believe it is because this particular Wendy’s is really cruddy, but it could also be because I got the wrong 99 cent items. What do you usually get?
I liked the “pasta bar” they used to have at Wendy’s… I actually got that in high school quite a bit.

Hardees is carl jrs east of the Mississippi and is ridiculously overpriced but very good. The Burger King up here features 2 whoppers for 3 bucks everyday. Too bad the burgers aren’t hot or fresh because nothings worse than an old whopper. I would rate McD tops too

You would be lucky if up here you found yourself a Burger King these days. No such thing as Carl’s Jr. or El Pollo Loco either.
You get your A&W’s/ KFC/MCD’S/Jack’s/Taco Smell/DairyQueen and Arby’s…
For cheap eats fast food definitely isn’t it but in a pinch it’ll do
My fav fast food is Arby’s normally but I like KFC for the potato wedges. Dairy Queen is great for their blizzards though.
