Cheap Eats at Bloglander

Seattle's BestWell, as for the title of “Seattle’s Best” coffee, I’m really not going to touch that with a 10 foot pole because I know there are a lot of coffee lovers out there who would rip me a new one for suggesting ANY coffee is good since I’m in Southern California, home of Starbuckian latte-loving yuppies. But in any case, this is not an argument on which coffee is better than another, nor is it a discourse on whether patronizing a Starbucks hurts the small mom and pop coffeeshops. This is a free coupon, and it’s pretty good since it has a larger time window than the Krispy Kreme coupon I mentioned before.

This is for a free 12 oz. beverage… which is interesting. Because I assume that even means that you don’t have to get coffee but can get something else like tea? That might be a wise decision because the coffee is being served at Borders and I can’t vouch for the quality of the coffee at a bookstore like that, even if it IS labeled Seattle’s Best.

Seattle's Best Free at Borders

The coupons is good from 6/18 - 7/01 which is a nice window of time. Plenty of time to drive down to borders, provided you live near Pleasanton, Roseville, Glendale, or Pasadena (I think these are all California) because that’s the only stores that will honor the coupon. The only problem for me is that the nearest of those stores, in Pasadena, is still a little bit of a drive… so I’ll have to weigh the cost of gas versus the coffee. I guess if I was going down there anyhow… but because of the need for a drive, I gotta give it a lower score than a full 10.

How much does a cup of coffee cost nowadays anyhow? I make my coffee at home. I remember certain diners still having 10 or 15 cent coffee the last time I checked. That’s diner coffee though… drinker beware! I’m actually thinking of going down to Borders just to see what other “beverages” I can get with the coupon that is a 12 oz. drink. I wonder if I squash a danish into a 12 oz. cup if it will count…

I didn’t know you were in SoCal. Whereabouts? I’m in Oceanside.

  2. Cheap Eats Editor Says:

tim - L.A. unfortunately. =) I like the san diego area, weather is nicer and seems like the ppl are too. Well, I guess the grass is always greener, etc…

  3. tim otero Says:

Most in the SD area hate LA. I’m not one of them. Heck, a town with the Dodgers, the LA Phil and the Getty can’t be all that bad (ok, there is that little Disneyland thing too, but that’s not really LA).

  4. Cheap Eats Editor Says:

gah… i am just happy that I live east of L.A. proper and certainly farther away from the Beverly Hills, West LA scenes. I dunno, i think I would like to move to Idaho. Or Montana.

Hey, are you going to start up a food product review blog or what? =) You mentioned you like Mexican food, maybe you could do one that reviews mostly mexican food? I dont think anyone is doing one yet… I am not Hispanic but i dig any type of mexican food whether authentic or quasi like tacobell. hm.. except i’m not sure about menudo and lengua…

  5. tim otero Says:

I’ve been mulling it over. I don’t know if there is enough mexican food to sustain it. I was thinking I could do mostly mexican food, with some other stuff thrown in. Maybe an ethnic food thing. My sister is in Oaxaca until August or September so I could probably get her to do some guest reviews with authentic mexican recipes. hmm

Maybe I could call it “El Taco Grande” or “The Whole Enchilada” or something like that. what do you think?

BTW menudo is killer…we used to eat it every New Years, it’s kind of a tradition with my family.

  6. Cheap Eats Editor Says:

Yeah, you should totally start up a mostly mexican food site… it would be “the Half Enchilada” instead of “full enchilada”, haha! You probably would have at least 3 visitors: me, feeder and marvo.

Oaxacan food: is that the mole influenced cuisine? I think I had it at a restaurant called Guelaguetza?

There are a lot of chinese restaurants near here that sell something like Menudo, a sort of intestines and soup noodles. I tried it, but i think I may not be going back for seconds. =)

Hey um….. Seattle’s Best Coffee is actually Starbucks…… I live in Seattle and it’s kinda of a not so known fact, but SBC is owned by Starbucks they just kept the other name so they don’t look like they own the coffee world. So in reality if you said you though SBC was really the best it would be like saying starbucks is the best….. (even though it’s not)

  8. Cheap Eats Editor Says:

Rachael - .. which is probably a good thing why I didn’t comment on whether Seattle’s Best is any good or not. =) Truthfully, i didn’t want to get into the Starbucks argument. But it’s difficult to beat free…

  9. Aurura Says:

Hey there, thanks for the coupon! Very kind of you to share that wealth. ;8^)

    Take Care,

    Aurura

  10. Cheap Eats Editor Says:

Aurura - You’re welcome! A friend sent it to me through email… this coupon seems not bad because it’s got a long window of time for redeeming…

  11. Katya Says:

I live in the Seattle area and used to work for Borders up to last year.

I can’t stand Starbucks brewed coffees or espresso but SBC’S Henry’s Blend is the cats’s meow. They also use Henry’s for their espresso drinks:)

I reembered taking that coupon busy times for a day lol…
