4/6/06 | Coffee Wins Caffeine Poll
[ Currently Eating: Cereal with Milk ]
Top ‘o the morning to ya. I’m only not dozing at the keyboard because I’ve got the winner of the Caffeine Poll sitting here at my side.
That’s right. As expected Coffee won the Caffeine poll in somewhat of a landslide with nearly 450 votes. Although there is some debate as to whether or not the twitchy fingers of caffeine-inundated folks weren’t responsible for mis-fired clicks…
A confession: I’ve never been a coffee drinker until about 3 years ago. Before that I never had more than a cup a week. It could have something to do with the fact that office coffee can be quite nasty.
We make the coffee at home and it’s much better stuff. I’m no coffee expert or anything, but you can definitely tell that this is better. So it’s not really Cheap Eats, but man you can’t skimp on certain luxuries…
Anyhow, I’ve gotten to the point where the first thing I do in the morning is brew a pot. I still only drink one cup a day and of course the 7pm rule still holds for me (no caffeine after 7pm, otherwise I have a hard time falling asleep).
Needless to say, my teeth are turning brown.

Soda came in predictably second. I actually drink a lot of soda still, but not as regularly as coffee. The Tea drinkers came out to answer as well. We have quite a bit of oolong and green teas in our cupboard.
I’m surprised there are so many caffeine teetotalers. I have a friend who has sworn off caffeine completely. To the point where he will only drink soda if it has no caffeine in it. That’s pretty hard, though I think he does make an exception for green tea. I actually thought I remember seeing something about a little caffeine actually being GOOD for you? I’ll have to look that up again.
You may or may not be interested in the next poll, since it has to do with frozen dinners and I know a lot of folks don’t eat these. Also, my poll thingy only allows room for 4 choices… I don’t even know what the top frozen dinner brands are. So I just picked 4 off the top of my head. So you’ll have to take yer pick from those…

Hi! I’m a teetotaler too (nothing replaces a nice glass of aqua) but I do hear that caffeine is a good way for athletes to increase their endurance and it also supposedly helps burn fat! But, just don’t given any to little kids!!

I Need coffee in the morning before going to the gym. I Need coffee to stay awake at work and I need soda in the afternoon to stay awake on the train so I don’t miss my stop. I may be addicted to caffiene.

I’ve been trying to cut back on the energy drinks and soda for my caffeine fix with green tea. Zero sugar and high in antioxidants. Although energy drinks have waaay more caffeine.

DANG, i missed out on the coffee vote. i don’t have quite the zest for frozen dinners that i do for coffee. as for those teetotalers, maybe you just have an exceptionally clear-minded group of readers/visitors? … that must be it

harie - lol… little kids on caffeine equals bad bad bad…
aaron - I can’t hear you because my eyes keep blinking. on of on off. Hold on let me put this cup down.
marvo - hey yes, green tea is supposed to have less caffeine then black tea. I’ve been trying to have more of that too.
tg - I used to be a coffee teetotaler so I could see how people could avoid it. But all caffeine is pretty intense. I don’t think I could stay awake past 3 in the afternoon if i didn’t have my usual 1 cup.

I have heard from some very trustworthy sources that an apple in the morning is actually better at getting you awake than a cup of coffee. Now depending on where you live, and where you get your coffee (tisk tisk on the $5 cup-o-joe on almost every city block) it may just be in your body and pocketbooks best interest to try it for a week.
