Cheap Eats at Bloglander

[ Currently Eating: Fritos ]

Cheezy SnaxHello ye Cheap Eaters. Thank you to everyone who wrote to express concern about my shoulder. It is a bit better now that I’m off the laptop, but still very bothersome… enough to keep me from posting more than twice a week.

Anyhow, here’s a short one for you today: Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos. Popular name brand snacks don’t go over so well at Cheap Eats sometimes. They’re just so unnecessary and expensive unless you can hit a sale at the grocery store and buy it in bulk. These tiny bags weight just 2 3/4 ounces and cost 99 cents. Doesn’t sound like Cheap Eats to me.

But wait TV viewers, there’s more. Did you know that along with this bag of cheesy snacks you also get an honest to goodness SERENADE? That’s right, it’s printed on the back of the package. What a bone-us. I’ll reprint it here for your enjoyment:

A Serenade to Cheetos Crunchy Cheddar Jalapeno Snacks
By: Chester Cheetah

I’ve travelled this country
And there’s one thing I’ve found,
Cheesy Snacks are the best around!!

Now, I’ve added JALAPENO to the mix!
The perfect combination to get your SNACKIN’ Fix!

A Hot New Flavor that you’ll
Be sure to savor!

So round up a bag of your own
and soon you’ll see you’re not alone!

That made the overall score go up by at least 2 points.

So how do they taste? Well, the Jalapeno flavoring is actually quite nice, although it’s very mild. To their credit, they don’t go out of their way to say that it’s super spicy. Unlike any number of fast food joints touting “Spicy Chicken Sandwiches” these days. I hate those commercials. Those people eating those sandwiches must be the biggest wimps in the world. You see them drinking fire hydrants after eating the sandwich… what a joke.

Cheetos

Stay tuned for more chips related posts… there is something regarding Fritos coming up which I promise will be at least semi-interesting.

Price: 99 cents

Oh, oh. How I love Cheetos. They’re porbably my #1 salty/cheesy junk food indulgence.

Jalapeno? Hmmm. I’m sure they’re not as hot as I’d want them to be (afterall, nothing can stand up to Blair’s Death chips)…but I’ll have to pick up a bag!

  2. Aaron Says:

Hey, This sounds pretty good. I’ll have to try them this weekend.

  3. Marvo Says:

Hmm…Cheetos. Anyway, many of the jalapeno-flavored snacks I’ve been eating were pretty mild. I guess they wanted to have a snack that will appeal to more people. If it was really spicy, it would turn off a lot of the market.

  4. Cheap Eats Editor Says:

chrissy - they are extremely mild. Yeah, it’s mostly for the flavor which is quite good.

    aaron - how were they?

marvo - I agree, esp Cheetos being really mainstream. They do have the Flaming Cheetos which are quite a bit more spicy for people who really want the spicy kick.

  5. Shawn Says:

A co-worker had them so I snuck a few… pretty tasty (especially since I have a weak tongue when it comes to spicy foods). Any spicier and I don’t think I could take ‘em :) But non-the-less i would buy them. Any who, have you all tried wasabi funyuns?
They’ve got a little more of a kick… pretty good as well.

  6. Peggasus Says:

I haven’t tried these, as I am more of a Doritos girl. If you want spicy, try the new Doritos Fiery Habanero variety, which is pretty damn spicy, and I can totally do spicy. But I can only have a small bowl of these, so maybe that’s a good thing.

In other Dorito news, saints be praised!, they have brought back the Salsa Verde flavor, the most awesome Doritos ever.

  7. Cheap Eats Editor Says:

shawn - eek, i actually have a strong aversion to wasabi. it is basically the only food that i can’t eat. which of course is very helpful when it comes to explaining to people that i’m japanese…

peggasus - i do like the Salsa Verde chips! I didn’t know they took them away to start with though… i haven’t got them in a long time.

  8. themirthmobile Says:

they are seriously tasty. i like the jalapeno flavor which comes out in these as opposed to the flaming hot cheetos which is all about the spiciness. of course, those are good as well, but it depends on my mood. as my friend rosa once said, and i have to agree, flaming hot cheetos are the snack of the new generation.

  9. Rana Says:

CAn anyone tell me where to find Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos? I will buy in bulk if possible.

    Thank You,

  10. camaross001 Says:

i hear the jalapeno cheetos are great but guess what they dont sale them in AR this really sucks !!!! why is this ????

  11. Janis Says:

I ate a whole bag of those delicious Jalapeno Cheetos yesterday. I love ‘em. They’re good, but try not to eat a whole big bag by yourself.

  12. Mary Says:

Jalapeno Cheetos are DEEELICIOUS!!! But they’re hard to find in MA! HELP!? =)

  13. Dana Says:

HARD to find? try IMPOSSIBLE! I discovered their jalepeno-y goodness at a 7-11 in Las Vegas and again in Arizona on my way to the grand canyon. I have been in withdrawals ever since coming home to New Jersey. Anyone wanna ship me some? I’ll pay double the manufacturer’s price! I NEEEEED THEMMM!!!

  14. Erin Says:

OK, I was totally stoked the other day when I found the BIG bag of Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos at a Safeway in Phoenix. However, that’s the only place I’ve found them. I’m seriously considering buying a case of them just in case (God forbid) that Fritos decides to take them off the market. I can only find the 99 cent bags at Circle K’s, and not even at all of them.

Dana, I’d be willing to ship you the big bags, provided the store I bought them at still carries them.

  15. Soli Says:

wwhhhhaaahhhh!!! I love the Jalapeno Cheddar Cheetos; however, since my relocation to Atlanta, GA almost 3 months ago, I have not been able to find them in any local stores. The Cheetos site doesn’t have a list of distributors and I’m upset.

  16. Chris Says:

Man them cheetos are so good, but i cant find them anywhere. im willing to buy a whole box if i can.

  17. gail Says:

a friend of mine had them at work, and i had some. they were very good. i’m not too fond of the cheetos flaming hot brand, and definitely not of the doritos fiery habaneros.

i’m been a-hunting the cheddar jalapenos for a month now in north seattle. no luck. my friend recently confessed that those were sent to her from Texas! eeyow.

where do i sign to have them in Seattle?

  18. Liz Says:

LOL. I ended up here by googling where to find these. I also got hooked on them during a recent trip out west. I’m back in MI now, and am having my friend in AZ ship them out. I received three bags of just-the-right-amount-hot, cheddar, jalepeno goodness on monday. but what will I do when these run out. . . ??!??!

  19. wendy miller Says:

I was wondering if you could send some jalapeno cheetos to ogden utah walmart so we dont have to go all the way to new mexico to get them they are really good and hope to see them soon.

  20. chyea Says:

BEST CHIPS EVER. I AM ADDICTED!!

  21. YDavis Says:

I absolutely love these jalapeno cheetos. I found them at Walmart one day and bought a bag to try. It was a mistake buying just 1 bag!!! My husband and I finished the whole bag right away. When I went back a few days later to the same Walmart, I could only find 1 bag so I bought it but after that they stopped selling it and I haven’t been able to find anymore.
But I just recently checked out Frito-Lay’s website and they have a link. I will check out the stores that are on the list in my area.

  22. Sally Says:

The ONLY place i have found them in Michigan is the school where I work. I am a high school teacher, and I think I love them more than my students. I can’t find them anywhere else…anyone contact the company to see what’s up??

  23. Shumdit@aol.com Says:

I have to say the jalapeno cheddar is about as addicting as anything can be. I had to stop eating them because I can’t stop at one bag and I t them until I can’t physically eat any more. I wonder if there is a 12 step program for these beautiful little jalapeno cheddars?

  24. Jim Says:

They sell these in vending machines at my school, but their impossible to find anywhere else, and way overpriced in the machines…
