I love the Hunt's Spaghetti sauce - our favorite is Garlic & Herb. I think it's better than the canned stuff for most recipes (stuffed shells, manicotti, soup bases, spaghetti, lasagna)!

You should check out the salt content. I seem to remember it had about 40% or so of your daily allowable sodium so I won"t buy it still cheaper to buy a can of low sodium canned tomatoes and add a few herbs etc.

I'm a convert, too! Was skeptical and thought the 4-cheese would need doctoring first time I tried but am hooked. Even tried recently to make the baked ziti recipe on the back of can. Got rave reviews from my genuine Italian family. : )

I have been eating this stuff for years - (Having grown up poor and I'm currently in college to remedy that, nonetheless still temporarily poor) and I love it. I think my favorite thing about it is that it's lower in calories than my sweet, expensive, delicious prego sauce. (Yeah, all these years of living on ramen and donated potato flakes have put some poundage on me). But yeah, as someone said, they make a great base for a sauce - usually for me all I have to do to make it taste like one of the "pricey" brands is a handful of ground beef or crumbled italian sausage, and some salt, pepper, and oregano. Sometimes I sautee garlic and then pour the sauce in over it. Flavors it nicely :)

CEE: Definitely get the Cheese and Garlic. It is a very nice sauce. I too was reluctant to try a canned spaghetti sauce but I gotta say with the addition of meat, it was really quite good, especially when finished off with some grated parmesan. Under higher heat, however, the sauce did seem to break down a little so for a pound of spaghetti, I went with 2 cans instead of one and this seemed to be the perfect formula to get the most out of the sauce. Not bad at all for $1.29 a can!

I 2nd Del Monte's Canned Sauce (4 cheese *yum*). I have personally never bought bottled spaghetti sauce. I suppose now that I am no longer a broke student, I can maybe afford to try the more expensive bottled stuff.

jgodsey--Get some small plastic containers, or even zip top baggies, and freeze individual portions of sauce after you open a can or jar. It works great and reduces waste.
