Resident guide Tammy Powley from the Jewelry Making About.com posted some really good tips about what to keep in mind when selling your jewelry in shops and boutiques.

Wire Worker Becomes Virtual Teacher

I haven’t really started canvasing the local shops that sell jewelry to try out either wholesale or consignment, but I can echo the concerns about having a wholesale price list ready to show to show owners. You don’t want to be hemming and hawing about the prices in front of them. And I also agree with choosing wholesale over consignment whenever possible. Though potentially more profitable (consignment often seems to work at a 60/40 split vs. 50/50), jewelry consigning can be a lot of work and even nervewracking, especially if you are consigning someplace that isn’t around the corner where you can check up on how your items are doing. With wholesale, once you sell it to the shop you’re done (in theory anyhow).

Hi…neat to find myself mentioned on your blog, though, I think the url you want to link to is Jewelry Business Trends - BTW, I’m adding your blog to a list I’ve started on my site at Jewelry Bead Art Blogs

Tammy - Oh, thanks for that catch! For some reason the URL was one used for another post. Thanks for the link in your Jewelry list! I’m a big fan of your Jewelry Making About.com site and I visit there regularly for ideas and to see what new creations people come up with.
