3/14/05 | Promotions - The Sampler
If you’re running a small jewelry or craft business and are looking for a really fun way to promote your products, you should take a look at The Sampler. Marie from The Sampler started up this service in August of 2004. Basically, every month people sign up for a nominal fee to receive a really fun variety package containing tons of indie craft samples including things like jewelry, handsewn pouches, soap, buttons, stickers, zines, candles, bookmarks, magazines, CDs and more! DIY Craft businesses are the ones that provide the actual samples, which acts as a promotional tool for them to get their name out there. There are different tiers of sample contribution, ranging from people who contribute only a few one-of-a-kind special items, to magazines who contribute 200+ copies.
The Sampler is a promotional/distribution tool for indie businesses. Each month, indie crafters, shops, zines and record labels who run web-based businesses send samples and promotional materials to a contribution pool. I portion out the goodies, put them in little packages, then send them off to Sampler Subscribers and back to Contributors!
We actually contributed 50 pairs of simple earrings to The Sampler for February 2005. It was a really nice experience… one cool thing is that each business who contributes more than 25 samples will get a FREE sampler for that month! One thing to remember is since the samples are randomly inserted into the packages, not everyone will get one of your items. (unless you do a Mega-Super contribution that enables everyone to get one of your items!) If you’re interested in receiving a sampler, you’ve got to be on your toes because the spots fill up extremely quickly, sometimes within a few days! Leila - I am not sure if contributors have to be from the U.S., but I know the people receiving the sampler can be in other countries. Maybe you can check on the Sampler Site… or email Marie about it, she is very nice! =)
