3/24/05 | Renegade Craft Fair
For the past two years, Sue and Kathleen have organized the Renegade Craft Fair a festival of sorts in Chicago that featured DIY crafters and their creations. This year they’ve gone “on tour” for the first time and are planning a Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn in addition to their usual Chicago event. Note that they are no longer accepting applications for the New York event so jewelry makers will have to either wait until next year to apply or try out for the one in Chicago which is taking place in September 2005.
Here is some information about the fair from their site:
The Renegade Craft Fair is an edgy D.I.Y. event showcasing a ton of the coolest crafts from all over the country. We, Sue Blatt and Kathleen Habbley, came up with this event after searching for venues to sell our own stuff. We couldn’t find anything that appealed to us…other fairs seemed too stuffy so we just decided to start our own. Now we’re in our third year and touring to other cities so keep your eyes peeled for the Renegade Craft Fair in your city, ’cause we might be there soon!
I’ve never been to the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago so I can’t comment on the quality of the jewelry that is being offered or on how well past fair participants have done as far as sales go. But with a set amount of 150 vendors and because it focuses primarily on the DIY craft movement as opposed to “commercial” items, it looks to be a good opportunity for DIY jewelry makers to try out. Note that because of the large amount of applicants, the fair is “juried” and the application fee is not peanuts at $150 (refundable if you are rejected). But it’s definitely worth a look if you are in the area.
