Well, this juice recipe might not exactly make you gallop per se. But it certainly will get you up and at ‘em! It packs a punch with grapefruit and pineapple, but is smoothed over with the addition of strawberry and banana. Also, should you choose to accept this mission - you can always sneak a little rum in there to round out your evening.
Ingredients:
1/2 a pink grapefruit, rind removed
3 long pieces of pineapple (also called “spears”)
2 strawberries
1 banana
rum (optional, 1-2 ounces)
Directions:
First juice up the pineapple pieces. You can save the pith… although some people find it a little too fibrous to use in cooking or desserts. Up to you.
Now, I find that I also like to try remove a good amount of the bitter white pith that’s on the outside of the grapefruit meat. Others don’t seem to feel this affects the juice that much. In any case, once you’ve got your grapefruit you probably may need to chunk it up in order to fit it down the shute. Juice the grapefruit with the strawberries.
For the banana, remember that these don’t hold up well in a conventional juicer and will generally make a huge mess. What you want to do is to break up the banana and put it in the blender instead. You can always omit the banana but I find it adds a nice consistency to the drink. You may need to add a bit of liquid in the blender to get it going… this may be a good time to introduce that rum.
Mix the grapefruit and pineapple juices together and add the banana mixture. You can actually blend the whole thing if you want to get it mixed nicely.
Makes about 1.5 cups of juice.
