I found this grapefruit-centric mixer drink in a juicing book. It also centers around pineapple and rum, with some banana and strawberries to smooth things over. I think it’d be pretty good w/out the addition of rum as well. It sort of seems like a standard smoothie mixture except that the grapefruit gives it some extra zing. Remember, the banana isn’t meant to go in your juicer… use a blender for that.
Ingredients:
1/2 pink grapefruit, peeled but pith OK
3 pineapple spears, peeled
1 banana
2 strawberries
1 ounce of rum
I actually put more strawberries in this one and reduced the pineapple, but it’s up to your taste buds. Juice the pineapple pieces first. You can save the pulp for other uses if you’d like. Juice the grapefruit and strawberries next.
Now, get out the blender. This can sometimes be a pain to have to use two kitchen appliances just for this, but the banana just doesn’t play very well with most juicers. Break up the banana into chunks and place in the blender. Add the juiced pineapple, grapefruit, and strawberries. Add the rum and blend everything together until well mixed. Pour and serve immediately.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups juice mixer.
