I had some of this interesting Volcano Orange Juice the other day. Also known as “Blood Orange Juice“, you can also surprisingly order it through Amazon where it comes in a pack of three 3/4 liter tall glass bottles (which almost look like wine bottles). But it’s definitely found at Trader Joe’s as well.
It’s made from 100% blood oranges varieties grown in Italy near Mt. Etna, and hence the name. The color is a striking red-orange hue and it gets that color from the special blend of three different types of regional blood oranges: Tarocco, Sanguinello and Moro.
As far as taste goes, it is fairly tart for orange juice which should turn off a good number of folks unless they mix it with other juices (not me, though: I like juice that’s on the more sour side).
Volcano also makes different varieties of this specialty orange juice including a Tangerine Juice that I haven’t tried yet. While the price is rather exorbitant for simple juice people like myself, it’s elegant, refined and might be something special to serve at your next luncheon.
Juicing Basics Rating: 6 out of 10
