Nordic Ware Microwave Cover

November 3, 2006

Nordic CoverI’ve been looking around for another microwave cover ever since I accidentally melted the old one into oblivion by placing a bag of fancy microwave popcorn on top of the cover and nuking it. Don’t ask me why I put the bag of popcorn on TOP of the cover. The oil seeped through the bottom of the package and ended up basically eating a huge hole in the top, necessitating a new one. I got replacement at Target but have been less than happy with it.

This Nordic Ware Microwave Cover on amazon seems pretty sturdy and has a vent hole right in the middle (something my current one lacked) but it still fails the major requirement for me. That is to microwave BOWLS of food. The cover has a wide diameter but is only 2 inches high. This is much too low to microwave a small bowl of stew or chili that is full. The cover ends up sitting directly on top of the food if it extends beyond the rim of the bowl, and I don’t like the cover to touch the food for the aforementioned reasons. Other than that, the cover seems to be pretty much standard and quite sturdy, though I’ve heard that it cracks easily because it’s hard plastic.

I have no idea why there don’t seem to be any “tall” microwave covers. The first company to manufacture one is certainly will get my business…
