Kitchen Conversation - Ball Whisk

This ball whisk might look a little bizarre at first glance - sort of like one of those children’s lighted toys they sell at amusement parks. However, they’ve certainly hit upon something as far as usability goes in the kitchen.

The thing that most people talk about with the whisk is that it’s much, much easier to clean than an average closed loop whire whisk where its difficult to scrub between the loops. Each of the 11 stainless steel ball bearings is attached by sturdy but flexible wires to the metal handle. There is a larger ball bearing in the center to give it more heft.

Because of the weight of the ball bearings, the overal whisk is heavier but can be easier to use because they give substance and resistance to the motion of whisking (for example, throwing a heavier baseball can be easier than throwing a lighter whiffle ball). The balls also are good at getting into corners.

One of the issues that people seem to come across with the ball whisk is that the “aeration” effect of a normal whisk seems to be slightly lacking. I suspect that might have to do with the method of whisking, because others report that they sometimes OVER-whisk food. Also, the metal balls can make quite a racket, something akin to the noise of shaking around marbles in the bowl.
