Lion Brand Speed Stix • 1/17/06
Whoa. Has anyone seen these new Speed Stix by Lion Brand? At a whopping size 50, they are 25mm in diameter, and using chunky yarns, you can knit a scarf in an hour. And I thought size 35 was big!
It retails $11.99 which is fairly reasonable for plastic needles. The knitting freak in me wants to get a pair just to see if I can do a scarf in an hour - the knitting geek in me wants it to add to the ever-growing needle collection!

I have just made some knitting needles out of a wooden broom handle sawed in half, with the ends planed into a point, then sanded smooth. They’re about 35mm! Can’t wait to use them. I reckon I could knit a blanket in a few hours.

I saw them and wondered if I could even hold them in my hands… even more surprising were the needles I saw at a fabric store that have LIGHTED TIPS! I want a pair, hope Santa is listening…

The throw Lion Brand features on their site with these needles turns out beautiful!!! A piece of cake and I can get them done in about 4 sittings.
It does get pricey because the pattern calls for 8 skeins of chunky weight yarn.

I triple love my speed stix!!! I, too, thought they would be hard to hold, but, I found out what was comfortable for me and they are great. I feel as if I can make afghans for my entire Christmas list.

Has anyone seen the ad in The NY Times, Sun 10/28 magazine section with the biggest, big wool scarf I have ever seen. Where would one get such yarn…and would size 50 needles be big enough. Barney’s is selling this scarf for $2,250.00. on special order. I want to make one.Any ideas?

I’m working on my 2nd throw (6 hour throw) with the speed stix and I love them. It’s taking me longer than than 6 hours as I just am able to work on them a short time in the evening but it goes so fast. I just wish they were a little longer as I would like the throws a little wider and I have had some trouble with stitches coming off the ends. Do they come any longer?

I too would like to know if “speed stix” come any longer?
I dont see answers to any of the comments????

I am glad to hear that there are circular needles. I like the speed with w/ an afghan can be made. However, the needles are so short that stitches drop off of the end. It is extremely frustrating. I have to look for the needles.

I bought these needles to make the 6 hour afgan pattern from Lion Brand. When I practiced a little bit with them, it kind of seemed hard for the stitches to go on and off because the ends are much skinnier than the body of the needle. Is this a problem for anyone else?
