Magic The Gathering card spotlights, articles, and tips for fans of an older style of play

Magic, Old School Poll

5/19/05 | Arabian Nights Set

The very first Magic the Gathering expansion set… wrote about my experiences with this one. This was before my time; I didn’t get to enjoy it when it came out. So no, I don’t have 50 Juzam Djinns. By Summer of 1994 they were already selling the formerly $1.45 packs for $5.00 which at the time seemed like a big ripoff…

5/5/05 | Fork: OSS

I talked a bit about one of my favorite cards in the OSS (Old School Spotlight), the simply titled Fork. This is one of the first rares that I ever received for Magic the Gathering. A lot of uses for this card, an hilarity often ensued when opponents Forked each others Forks and then Counterspelled each others Forks. Or Forked each others Counterspells. You get the idea.

4/24/05 | Antiquities Set

Wrote up a quick summary of the Antiquities expansion set, along with memories of it and some of the cards that were cool. This was actually the very first expansion set that I bought in stores. I remember going to the Gamekeeper at the South Coast Plaza mall and buying a few packs at a time for $1.45 each. No one wanted them and the store owner seemed happy that anyone would buy them!

Wrote up a short post on the card Remove Enchantments today for the OSS (Old School Spotlight). We made great use of this legends common when it first came out, because there were a lot of heavy creature enchantment decks running around in our circle of friends at the time. It was particularly funny to watch an opponent put Unstable Mutation, Unholy Strength, and Divine Transformation on a Scryb Sprite and then attack with it, while you cast this card.
