I’ve been eyeing this Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter from Provo Craft for awhile now ever since seeing it at Joann’s. At a price entry point of just under $200 and a fairly compact size of around 18 x 10 x 13 inches, this seems like a good way to upgrade from smaller die cutters to a more professional version without completely breaking the bank (there are plenty of cutters starting at $300 and up to nearly $1000).

Most people will be pleased with the fact that you don’t have to buy all the individual designs like you would if you wanted to get manual cutters (By Sizzix and Quickutz for example) for everything.

Sometimes it’s true what they say - the simplest things are the best. I’ve been sort of looking for some solution to keeping track of all those unwieldy holiday and birthday gift wrapping rolls that seem to collect in our closet. There are any number of newfangled gadgets for storing them - but this simple vertical plastic container from Rubbermaid seems like it’ll do the trick.

At 33 inches long and 17 x 10 in girth, it seems like it will hold most rolls of wrapping paper - they say it holds up to 20 rolls. The removable lid also provides a place to store scissors, tabe and ribbons. The plastic looks well constructed and resistants to normal cracking.

Cutterpede Trimmer • 10/19/06

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the Cutterpede Trimmer lately. They have two models, a 12″ trimmer and a 5″ trimmer but I’m going to talk about the former one because it’s probably the one most paper and scrapbook aficionados will get the most use of.

It looks sort of similar to a full sized paper cutter like the ones from Fiskars but the width is much shorter, and thus more portable and lightweight. With a standard cutting arm and rotary blade assembly, it trims accurately and neatly through even thick paper without a huge amount of pressure. There’s also an interesting fold out ruler so that you can extend your measuring beyond the physical dimensions of the cutter.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that this cutter is especially nice for left-handed folks because you can measure from both sides of the blade and you don’t need to flip it around in order to use it. The blade seems to be rather durable, but if you use it too much they do have replacements for under 3 dollars. They also sell different blades for things like scoring and perforating at the same price.

It’s September again, and you’re undoubtedly casting around for something different in the way of notebooks when going back to school. I came across these interesting Moleskine Plain Notebooks on Amazon when doing just that.

Huh? What’s a Moleskine, you might ask? It apparently was a “legendary” type of notebook that was used by a wide variety of writers and artists, including Hemingway, Picasso and Van Gogh. These small pocket-sized note/sketch books have been around Europe for over two centuries! I won’t get into all of the details here, but suffice to say that they’ve got a long and storied history. Apparently, they went out of production in the 80s and have only resumed being made recently.
