There’s a good chance you’ve already seen work by Jaime Zollars before but I’m going to mention her here anyway because I think her artwork is great. I’ve been meaning to post about it for awhile ever since I saw some of her pieces at a craft show (Bazaar Bizarre LA).

I was completely taken with her evocative illustrations that often focus on a slightly dark, Gorey-like humor while maintaining a natural warmth that is friendly and inviting. Her work often depicts children and animals. Pictured below is a painting called “Pink Elephant Procession”.

It is strange, but both my mom and another friend really liked the artwork… my mom had earlier complained about how creepy Gorey and similar artists could be so I was wondering why she liked Zollars’ work! Like I said, I think there’s a little something extra to it that keeps the interest of more “mainstream” folks as well…

She also has a special page where you can print out stationery and bookmarks featuring her work, and also maintains Paper Forest, a blog that talks about paper projects and automata from around the world.
