Origami Insects • 11/20/05
I saw this book Origami Insects and their Kin on someone else’s site the other day and just had to post about it. Though a lot of people might be turned off by the creepy-crawly nature of these origami insects, I think trying to fold insects is probably a great way to showcase the intricate nature of origami.
All those antennae and legs and other insect parts seem to be a good deal more difficult to compose than standard animals and indeed a lot of people seem to think that this book represents one of the pinnacles of extremely complicated origami models. Amazingly, more than a few hours can go into creating just ONE of these models! The results look spectacular however and this book would be a great gift for any origami lover.
Origami Insects is by Robert Lang and features quite a few difficult insects along with diagrams including: ladybugs, beetles, spiders, dragonflies, and even a scorpion. I would assume that its 160 pages are very detailed in their diagrams and that it’d be suitable for more advanced folders. I think I’m just going to have to enjoy the pictures of the origami as the designs just seem too challenging to try out as a beginner yet!
