EasyFlex Craft Lamp Ott-Lite • 3/28/06
Back this past holiday season I received a 13W EasyFlex Craft Lamp from Ott-Lite. Needless to say, I’d been eyeing all of the Ott-Lite products for quite awhile but didn’t get one because it seems a bit pricey as far as lamps go.
But recently, I saw that Joann.com is having a sale exclusively on their entire stock of Ott-Lites. All of the lamps are 30% off which doesn’t seem like a lot, but it actually is when you consider that the
OTT-LITE 13W Flexible Craft/Table Lamp usually goes for $70 or so.
In addition, they are running some sort of deal where if you buy two or more lamps you can get an ADDITIONAL 15% off. That’s pretty darn good, and it might be reason enough to team up with a crafty friend and get one each to activate that 15% savings.
The Ott-Lites are mostly known for their flexible, gooseneck shape, ergonomic and efficient construction and low-glare lighting. The EasyFlex one I have is quite nice. I like the 180 degree pivot action on the lamp neck and the adjustable shade. The bulb that comes with it is 13 Watts and is rated to 10,000 hours.
The lamp is great for scrapbooking, paper crafting, or any other hobby that requires good light to see in. It certainly seemed to reduce eyestrain.
One of the few things I’m not as thrilled about is the sort of awkward base. I guess it is made like that in order to faciliate easy grabbing and moving, but the curved wings sticking out just seem a bit weird. They do make it a bit stable than it might otherwise be (the lamp is extremely light so they probably need a larger base).
One additional note: if you do get the lamp, be careful when inserting the bulb. There are actually detailed instructions for putting the bulb in. It’s a bit scary grabbing a longer light tube and trying to force it in. It actually “snaps” into place only when you press it in fairly hard. Don’t put pressure on anywhere except the base of the tube.
You’ll also want to save the instruction manual in case you need to remove the bulb since there are very specific instructions for removal!
