When looking for that special, unique stationery to use to write to your special pals, a good place to look are the smaller independent paper companies online. But all too often, I see the same tired designs that look like they were cribbed out of a clip art book being sold at inflated prices.
Not so with Paper Petals, a small paper design company located in Missouri who make some beautiful and vibrant stationery and gift related accessories. Designer Nancy Gronemyer heads up Paper Petals and her patterns often revolve around abstract florals with strong lines and bold colors. The company makes standard flat cards, embellished notecards and mini note cards.
Here’s an example of one of their correspondence cards, called Bells of the Forest. The card is 5 1/2 inches with a fold at top and has an included envelope. What I like about their style is that the cards are unique enough (at least from what’s frequently offered at chain stores) but aren’t so DIY looking that you can only use them for casual applications. These cards are $3.00 each.
Another example of one of their cards is this light sea-green embellished note card called Daisy. It features a simple single flower made out of what looks like blue and yellow string pieces. They look like they take quite a bit of effort to create, which could be the reason that they are a bit pricey at $6.00 a piece. Still, you get what you pay for with handmade card art like this!
I really like their tagline as well which is “Write For All Reasons”. There is more than clever wordplay at work here. Paper Petals actually strives to remain conscious of environmental issues regarding their products. A blurb from their website:
Paper Petals LLC is dedicated to provide environmentally friendly products. The products are produced based on careful planning instead of economies of scale and are designed to be a cherished method of communication and gift exchange. Paper Petals TM products are printed on premium acid free recycled paper. The products are made in the USA and printed by master pressman.
They also donate many of their cards to a charity called Angels Arms in St. Louis Missouri who use the cards for fundraising, auctions and handwritten thank you for donations given to the charity.
Although I had never heard of the company before, they are distributed in tons of stationery stores across the U.S. So you might be able to find it at a local store, though you can also order online if you like what you see. I think they have some really great stationery that the average card-writer would get a lot of use out of.
